Traditional Aikido Since 1964

The Long Island Aikikai is the premier Aikido Dojo on Long Island, New York.  Established by our Chief Instructor Edward Hagihara in 1964, our Aikido school is one of the oldest in the country. The mission of the Long Island Aikikai is to preserve and spread the traditional Japanese martial art of Aikido. Part philosophy, part action, Aikido is a highly effective form of self-defense that teaches you how to protect yourself without the mere use of violent kicking or punching. Known for its fluid yet dynamic techniques, Aikido does not require the practitioner to be strong or aggressive in nature; therefore making it a suitable discipline for  men, women and children of all ages.

The Long Island Aikikai is also one of the only Dojos to offer classes in traditional Japanese swordsmanship.  At our martial arts school students can learn the elegant art of Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu Iaido.  This 400 year old martial art emphasizes drawing and cutting with the samurai sword in a precise and graceful manner.
